StOC, (Sticklepath and Okehampton Conservation Group), is a voluntary group of local people who go out every week to undertake conservation work in and around North Dartmoor. StOC works alongside organisations such as the National Trust, English Heritage, Dartmoor National Park and various Commoners Groups to improve areas of land open to the public. The ethos of the Group is to conserve the natural beauty of Dartmoor, enabling members of the public to enjoy this corner of Devon. StOC will take on tasks requested by various organisations and by individual members of the public, as long as the tasks support the Group ethos.
The Group meets in the car park behind the Finch Foundry every Friday at 10am for a quick briefing before heading out to the work location. The list of upcoming projects is on the web site (see below).
StOC has been running since 1991 and is made up of members from the whole community including men and women with learning disabilites, many of whom have been with StOC for a number of years and have developed socially through the organisation.
StOC has won several awards recognition of outstanding contributions the local environment.
