StOC, (Sticklepath and Okehampton Conservation Group), are a voluntary group of local people who go out every week to undertake conservation work in and around north Dartmoor. They work alongside organisations such as National Trust, English Heritage, DNPA and various Commoners Groups to improve areas of land open ot the public. The ethos of the group is to conserve the natural beauty of Dartmoor, enabling members of the public to enjoy what this corner of Devon has to offer. StOC will take on tasks as requested by various organisations and by individual members of the public where appropriate, as long as it supports their ethos.
The group meet in the car park behind the Finch Foundry every Friday at 10am for a quick briefing session before heading out to their location. The list of upcoming projects are listed below.
StOC has been running for some 25 years now and is made up of members from the whole community including men and women with Learning Disabilites, many of whom have been with StOC for a number of years and have developed socially through the organisation.
They have just recently won the 2014 Mayoral Green Award as recognition of all their voluntary hard work and achievements throughout their time.
